Health and Safety Policy for Safe Winery Bike Tours
At On Yer Bike Hawke’s Bay Limited (t/a On Yer Bike Winery Tours), we believe exploring the local wineries by bicycle should be fun and worry-free. Our commitment to providing a Safe Winery Bike Tour Experience is our top priority. While cycling is a highly enjoyable recreational activity, we recognize the risks involved and ensure all reasonable steps are taken to minimize them. This policy outlines the shared responsibilities that keep our environment safe and compliant with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. Through teamwork and communication, we ensure every ride on the Hawke’s Bay Winery Trails is secure and enjoyable. Through the hiring of our equipment we all agree to:
OUR RESPONSIBILITY towards Health and Safety
- To comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, and all other legislative requirements and codes of practice.
- To provide an environment for workers and customers that has minimal risk to health and safety. To identify any risks, to provide information, instruction and supervision necessary to maintain a healthy and safe workplace. This will include, but not limited to:
- To check all bicycles and equipment prior to hire.
- To provide well-maintained bicycles and equipment
- To provide initial instruction on equipment hired.
- To provide assistance to hires for bikes that suffer a mechanical breakdown or punctured tire-and provide another bike if possible.
- To ensure that conditions and practices are monitored and reviewed for the purpose of providing an effective health and safety policy.
OUR CUSTOMER’S RESPONSIBILITY
- To know how to use and ride a bicycle and have adequate competency prior to hiring.
- To comply with all NZ road rules and, therefore, wear bicycle helmets provided. Not using mobile phones or be distracted when cycling.
- Strictly adhere to the rule of Not riding a bike when intoxicated. This is vital for the safety of all participants on our Hawke’s Bay cycling trails. See our rental terms and conditions for cancellation during hire.
- Understand the risk in cycling; you may fall off, cause injury to yourself or to other people, or damage your possessions. If you have, or cause, an accident whilst riding it is your responsibility.
- To accept full responsibility for the equipment you have rented. Agree to pay all costs and damages in the event of any damage to the equipment (except damage consisting only of fair wear and tear). Not to ride in a manner that will cause damage to bicycles by performing wheelies, jumps or skids.
- Be back on time agreed at booking or pay a late return penalty.
On Yer Bike Hawke’s Bay Limited (t/a On Yer Bike Winery Tours) operates in hiring equipment for use in an outdoor activity. It is not defined as an adventure activity as under the Health and Safety at Work (Adventure Activities) Regulations 2016.
Our safety management system’s core focus is hazard prevention through systematic risk assessment and continuous improvement. We look forward to providing you with a safe and memorable self-guided winery bike tour experience in Hawke’s Bay.
