Your wine country day, your way.

Hawke's Bay's two wine districts are both flat, easy riding and packed with cellar doors worth stopping at. Here's what each route looks like — pick the one that suits your group's vibe and stamina:

Gimblett Gravels Wine District

Known for its stony, free-draining soils, Gimblett Gravels is the perfect spot for lovers of bold, full-bodied red wines. The 12km route takes you through some of New Zealand's most awarded wineries, including:

  • Trinity Hill: A celebrated producer of Syrah, Viognier and Port wines.
  • Unison Vineyard: A boutique winery with a family feel.
  • Swift Wines: A young winery with a young winemaker — the wines are worth finding.

Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District

The Bridge Pa Triangle is known for its diverse range of wineries, from boutique producers to larger estates. This trail covers about 22km and includes stops at several cellar doors, offering ample opportunity for wine tastings and vineyard views. Enjoy a mix of reds, whites, and rosé as you stop at:

  • Ash Ridge Winery: A popular spot for delightful Syrah and scenic views.
  • Paritua Winery: A celebrated producer of Bordeaux-style reds.
  • Alpha Domus: Famous for its full-bodied reds and delicate whites.
  • Abbey Winery & Brewery: Join in the friendly brewpub atmosphere with live music.
  • Oak Estate: A bistro in the vines — stop here for lunch if you're timing it right.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a hens' party bike ride?

As soon as possible, especially for weekends and summer dates. Use our online booking system to check availability.

What start times are available?

Choose one of our slots: 10:30am, 11:00am, or 12:00pm in summer and 11:00am or 12:00pm in winter. Once you are here, we'll have you fitted and briefed in around 15 minutes. You then have until 5pm to return the bikes.

How do we get to your base?

We're at 2543 State Highway 50, Roy's Hill — 15 minutes from Hastings and 25 minutes from Napier. Hastings Taxis (0800 875 055), Baywide Taxis (0800 88 55 33) and Uber all service the area.

Do we need to be fit to do the winery bike ride?

All routes are 100% flat and you set your own pace. As long as you know how to ride, you can choose a long or short route depending on ability.

How far do we cycle?

The Gimblett Gravels is approximately 15km (without Radburnd) to 18km (with Radburnd).
The Bridge Pa Triangle route is approximately 21km (to Abbey Winery and Brewery/Alpha Domus and back) to 27km (to Paritua and back).

How long does the ride take?

Most groups take a full day — usually 4–6 hours. It is not all cycling! Probably 60-90 minutes cycling total and the rest depends on how long you linger at each winery.

How many people can join a hens' party bike ride?

We can accommodate groups of various sizes. Anywhere from six to sixteen works well — enough for a proper celebration without becoming hard to manage.

Can older guests or the hens' mum join in?

Absolutely — e-bikes are available for anyone who'd rather arrive at each cellar door grinning than gasping. Book one when you reserve.

Can we wear hens' party outfits and accessories?

Yes! Groups are welcome to dress up — just make sure everyone can safely wear a helmet over any headwear.

Are wine tasting fees included?

No — tasting fees are an additional $15–$30 per person depending on the winery. Food is also not included.

What happens if it rains on the day?

Hawke's Bay has one of the sunniest climates in New Zealand, but come prepared for the odd shower. If the weather turns severe, we can move your booking to another day with enough notice — check our cancellations and refunds page for details.

Which Wineries Should We Visit?
