Hire A Bike to Visit Hawke's Bay Wineries

A bicycle hire to visit local wineries in Napier and Hastings starts here. We're based in Roys Hill, at the edge of the Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle Wine Districts. From the moment you hop on, you're already in wine country.

Our bikes are the right choice if you're comfortable on a bicycle and happy to ride at your own pace. Flat terrain, short distances between wineries, and no motor. Just you, the route, and as many stops as you like.

Pick up a bicycle. The rest sorts itself.

Our bikes are built for comfort: lightweight, upright riding position, front basket, and a size to fit most riders. They're the right tool for a day's riding in wine country, where the distances are short and the stops are worth lingering at.

Here's what comes with every hire:

  • The bikes: Well-maintained, comfortable, and ready to go. Sizes from small to large, with kids' bikes and trailers available if you're bringing the family.
  • Helmets and a briefing: We fit every rider before you head out and run you through the route so you know exactly where you're going.
  • Roadside assistance: Flat tyre, mechanical issue — call us and we'll sort it.
  • Wine collection: Buy before 3pm at any cellar door and leave it there. We collect it and have it waiting for you at base.

One more thing worth knowing: our base sits 200m from the nearest cellar door, right in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle wine districts. You're in wine country before you've warmed up.

Visit the Hawke's Bay's Wineries Ride

You can cycle the Hawke's Bay Cycle Trail Wineries Ride and visit cellar doors in two of New Zealand's most awarded wine districts. Here are the two on the route:

Gimblett Gravels Wine District

Stony, free-draining soils that push the vines hard — which is why the reds here have the depth they do. The route is 15–18km and takes in some of the district's best cellar doors.

  • Trinity Hill: One of the Gravels' landmark producers. Strong on Syrah, Viognier and Port-style wines.
  • Unison Vineyard: Boutique and unhurried. The kind of place where someone will actually talk to you about what's in your glass.
  • Swift Wines: A young winery with a young winemaker. The wines are worth finding.

Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District

A broader range of styles than the Gravels — more producers, more variety. The route covers 21–27km with plenty of stops along the way.

  • Ash Ridge Winery: Good Syrah and views to match.
  • Paritua Winery: Bordeaux-style reds done seriously.
  • Alpha Domus: Bold reds and some well-made whites. Worth the stop.
  • Abbey Winery & Brewery: If someone in your group isn't a wine drinker, this is their reward. Brewery, live music, good atmosphere.
  • Oak Estate: A bistro in the vines. Stop here for lunch if you're timing it right.

You can pull stops from both routes — most riders mix and match depending on the day.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What sizes of bicycles are available?

We have 30 bikes of various sizes (5 small, 10 small to medium, 11 large and 4 extra large), so whether you're tall, short, or somewhere in between, we'll make sure you're set up comfortably before you head off.

Do I need any cycling experience to hire a bike?

Our bicycles are easy to ride and perfect for casual cyclists of all ability levels. If you're comfortable riding a standard bike, you'll have no trouble exploring the Hawke's Bay wine trails at your own pace.

How long can I hire a bicycle for?

Our bike hire service runs for a full day and is available from 10:30am–5:00pm, giving you plenty of time to explore the Gimblett Gravels or Bridge Pa routes.

Can I carry wine or personal items in the basket while I ride?

Yes! All our bikes come with a front basket, perfect for small personal items. For heavier wine purchases, we offer a wine collection service. We'll pick up your bottles before 3pm and have them waiting for you when you return.

What happens if I get a flat tyre or have a mechanical problem on the road?

Bicycle tyres don't like glass or nails. If you have a flat tyre or something breaks on the bike, roadside assistance is included with your hire. Call us and we'll be out to you with a replacement bike.
