The Winemaker's Lost Journal: A Winery Treasure Hunt Adventure

The Winemaker's Lost Journal is a self-guided cycling treasure hunt through the vineyards of Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Starting from On Yer Bike Winery Tours' base in Roys Hill, Hastings, you'll hire a bike and follow a trail of cryptic clues between four partner wineries across either the Gimblett Gravels or Bridge Pa Triangle wine districts. The route covers 12–15 km of mostly flat cycling and takes around 4–5 hours including wine tastings and lunch. It's ideal for groups of friends, couples, hens parties, birthday groups, and corporate teams.

Treasure Hunt group searching for clues

Cycle, Sip, and Find the Treasure.

Somewhere in the Hawke's Bay wine districts, a winemaker's journal has gone missing. Elias Thorne left clues. Whether he meant to is another question.

Your mission? Follow his cryptic clues through the Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle wine districts. Along the way, solve puzzles, uncover local secrets, and taste local wines. The Winemaker’s Lost Journal is a self-guided outdoor treasure hunt: part cycling tour, part mystery, and nothing like a usual day out.
