Alpha Domus Vineyard
Alpha Domus — Family-Run Cellar Door, Bridge Pa Triangle
Alpha Domus is a family-owned, certified organic vineyard on Maraekakaho Road in the Bridge Pa Triangle — one of the cellar doors on On Yer Bike’s self-guided wine trail around the Bridge Pa Triangle circuit. It prides itself on crafting premium organic wines through traditional winemaking, organic viticulture. Producing distinctive wine styles to deliver quality, flavour, and authenticity that reflect the terroir of the region.
Alpha Domus has converted to certified organic practices, emphasising clean fruit, soil health, and sustainable growing and now operates under full organic viticulture certification (recently achieved), having re-planted a large portion of their vineyard, and applying organic, sustainable vineyard and soil health methods.
What wines does Alpha Domus make?
Reds built around Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, alongside Chardonnay, Semillon and Viognier whites. The range runs from everyday Collection wines through to the Reserve and Special Reserve tiers — including The Aviator, The Ace, The Aerofoil and The Batten — plus two sparklings, the Cumulus Blanc de Blancs and Beatrix Rosé, for anyone after something with bubbles.
Is Alpha Domus family-owned?
Yes. The Ham family planted the first vines here in 1989, on what was then bare land — now recognised as part of the Bridge Pa Triangle wine growing district. The name comes from “Alpha” (the family members’ initials) and “Domus,” Latin for home. Winemaker Barry Riwai works with a minimal-intervention approach — letting the fruit and the vintage do the talking rather than heavy cellar work.
What are Alpha Domus’s cellar door hours?
Alpha Domus’ open season starts after Labour weekend (third week of October) and goes until King’s Birthday Weekend (first weekend in June).
Through the main summer season, the cellar door is open Thursday to Sunday, 10am–5pm. Outside of that, visits are run by appointment — worth a quick check with Alpha Domus directly before you set off, especially if you’re riding out over the cooler months.
How much does a tasting cost at Alpha Domus?
$30* for a tasting of six wines — waived if you spend $40 or more on the day. Group visits are welcome up to 10 people.
Where is Alpha Domus, and is it on the OYB route?
1829 Maraekakaho Road, Raukawa — right in the Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District – about 1 km past the Bridge Pa Village. From the On Yer Bike base at Roys Hill, it is an 8.3km ride along the cycle track.
