Trinity Hill Winery

Trinity Hill is a winery and cellar door at 2396 State Highway 50, Hastings 4175, in the Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District of Hawke’s Bay. It’s 2 km from our base at Roys Hill, about an 8-minute ride, and it’s a stop on both our Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle routes. In October 2026 its cellar door was named Cellar Door of the Year at the Hawke’s Bay Wine Awards.

Why visit Trinity Hill on a bike tour?

Because it’s right on your doorstep, and the cellar door team has just been named the best in Hawke’s Bay. At the 2026 Hawke’s Bay Wine Awards, Trinity Hill took Cellar Door of the Year, plus trophies for its 2025 Gimblett Gravels Tempranillo and its 2024 ‘The Gimblett’.
Being so close to us, it works well as your first stop of the day or your last on the way home.

What wines is Trinity Hill known for?

Homage Syrah is Trinity Hill’s icon wine. The first vines went into the Gimblett Gravels in 1993, and the winery now grows fruit across three Gimblett Gravels vineyards. It’s also one of the places to find varieties you won’t see on most tasting lists: Tempranillo, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Francesa. Chief Winemaker Warren Gibson has been making the wine since 1997. He was named Winestate New Zealand Winemaker of the Year in 2005 and Hawke’s Bay Wine Show Winemaker of the Year in 2006.

What’s the cellar door like?

The winery was designed by architect Richard Priest and was ready for the 1997 harvest. The cellar door sits in what used to be the barrel hall, so expect 5-metre ceilings and plenty of room.
Tastings and local platters are available every day, and you can buy wine by the glass or the bottle. Buy as many bottles as you like. We’ll carry your bottles home for you.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, outside. Trinity Hill’s outdoor areas are dog-friendly. If your dog’s coming along for the ride, have a look at our Wine Dogs page.

Is there anything for non-drinkers?

Trinity Hill makes an alcohol-free range, so the sober rider in your group isn’t stuck with a glass of water. Ask at the cellar door what’s open on the day.

Do I need to book, and how big a group can they take?

Bookings are strongly encouraged, especially on weekends. The largest group they can take is 17 people.* You can book directly with Trinity Hill.

2 km, about an 8-minute ride from our shop at Roys Hill. It’s one of our nearest neighbours.
